The Santa Fe Christian Eagles took on the visiting Bishop Diego Cardinals out of Santa Barbara today at Beauchamp Stadium. This game marks the 6th meeting between the two teams with Bishop Diego leading the head to head matchup with an overall record of 4-1. That one loss came last year when SFC traveled up to Santa Barbara and beat the Cardinals 20-0. At the end of the first quarter Bishop Diego Cardinals were up 14-3. Due to some injuries in the first half the Eagles had to change their line ups and moved Senior Demitri Washington to QB. Before the half ended he lead the team down for Senior Brent Hewitt to kick his second field of the day to bring the score to 21-6. The 3rd quarter was scoreless but was dominated by an 8-minute old school Santa Fe Christian football ground and pound drive. The 4th quarter began with an SFC touchdown by Senior Joe Burich but was quickly answered by a 75-yard touchdown by Bishop Diego. Although that touchdown silenced the crowd it did not seem to affect the Eagles, who on a crucial fourth and 2 inside their own 20-yard line completed a 52 yard completion from Washington to Junior Austin Rossetti and a few plays later resulted in a 1 yard touchdown run for Demitri Washington. The final score of today’s game was 35 – 20 Bishop Diego over Santa Fe Christian.
Santa Fe Christian’s next game is Saturday, September 30th at 7pm against Christian High. The game will be played at Granite Hills High Schoolby Brad Sandusky
