10 Runners Headed to State Championship
On Saturday November 16th, the SFC Cross Country Varsity teams competed in the San Diego CIF Championship. In Division 5, the top 4 boys teams and the top 3 girls teams advance, along with 5 individual qualifiers from the top 14 finishers.
The girls team raced at 11:45am, with Melia Outman (9th grade) leading the SFC girls pack and finishing 7th out of 91 overall, followed by Kenzie Kennard (10th grade) in 8th place and Emma Morin (11th grade) taking 10th place. The three girls placed high enough to win three individual spots in the State meet.
The SFC boys team raced next, with Evan Smith (12th grade) taking 3rd place overall (out of 134) followed by top 20 finishers Owen Watson (10th grade), Esteban Contreras-Nicolas (12th grade), Joshua John (12th grade), Nicholas Rodrigue (11th grade), Johnny Grimstad (12th grade), and Lucas Sit (12th grade) all running personal bests and bringing the boys a 3rd place team victory and taking a team State Qualifying spot.
These 10 athletes will be headed to compete in the State CIF Finals on November 30th at Woodward Park in Fresno.
