Every year I’m truly amazed by the talent put on display here at Santa Fe. It shouldn’t be a surprise to me. After all, I’ve been around this school for 25 years. My own two kids were football players in high school and at the same time they were “lifers” in the band with Dave Hall. Yet as I sat in the stands this last Friday night with my wife and watched an unbelievably beautiful production of “Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat”, I was once again reminded about how special SFC is, and how unbelievably talented our students are.
This was the first SFC musical I’ve been able to attend since becoming our Athletic Director. And, since my new life revolves around sports at SFC, I tried to take note of all the students I was watching on stage Friday night that also happen to be athletes in a Varsity sport.
As I watched the musical, I realized there were 5 cast members that are also on the Football Team, and just the night before these guys were part of a dominant win over Francis Parker (47-14). Then, I noticed a few more actors that had a Cross Country meet the next morning at 9am. Turns out, our men’s and women’s teams dominated, taking 1st and 2nd in the Championship contest 18 hours later. Next, I counted a bunch of baseball players in the musical including Mr. Grant Rayners as the amazing “Elvis” Pharaoh. The day after the show, the Baseball Team would go on to host Carlsbad High in our 2021 Home opener early on Saturday morning. Guess what, SFC beat Carlsbad, 2-0.
The list of students at SFC that do other amazing things is truly endless. And further more our coaches and teachers encourage these diverse experiences in our kids while loveingly challenge them.
Finally, as I write this note, I also realized, all these wonderful events are taking place during a time when most schools in our state aren’t even meeting face to face.
We are so blessed. I love our school.
