Our very own senior and varsity leader Luke Bailey who is also Pepperdine bound in the fall has just been awarded the Howard Smith Award by the Southern California PGA.
HOWARD SMITH AWARD
The Howard Smith Award is presented to the boy and girl Junior Golfers who retain the lowest scoring average within the TTC series with a minimum of four (4) events played. This award is named in honor of five-time
SCPGA Section President and four-time Golf Professional of the Year, Howard Smith.
The Southern California PGA - Toyota Tour Cup Series
The SCPGA "Toyota Tour Cup Series" (TTC) features the best and highest ranked Junior Golfers in Southern California with tournaments hosted by some of the premier facilities in the area. Membership for the TTC is invitation only. All TTC events are nationally ranked and recognized by the leading Junior golf associations in the United States. Tournaments in the Toyota Tour Cup Series compete from the Championship tees (6,600-7,100+ yards).
Luke earned exemption to compete in the TTC in 2021. Since then, he has played in 26 two-day tournaments (36 holes), with one First Place finish, 10 top-5 finishes and 8 top-10 finishes. In 2022, Luke won the prestigious "Toyota Tour Cup Championship" and in 2023, worked to defend his title, but finished 3rd. Luke was also invited to compete in the TTC's 2023 "Patrick Cantlay Championship Finale" hosted by Patrick Cantlay at the Virginia Country Club where he took 2nd Place.
Luke will be missed next year when he is playing for the 2023 National Champions, but we will continue to pray for him and track his college career.
