The Lady Eagles got back in the win column on Monday with a Coastal League win over Oceanside’s Coastal Academy. The win was the first game of a three-game home stand this week for the Eagles. The team jumped out to an early lead and held on to gain a key league win by a score of 6 to 2, keeping them tied for the Coastal League lead.
The team got off to a quick start when Maya Tyszkiewicz got a walk and Bryn Henson singled getting the first to batters of the game on base. Olivia Anderson delivered her team leading 8th triple of the year to drive in two runs. Torin Bennett then hit a line drive single to center field scoring Anderson and the Eagles were up 3 – 0.
The team doubled the lead in the bottom of the second when Kayla Emond, Henson and Anderson drew walks loading the bases with two outs. Maddie Binnie drew a fourth walk in the inning bringing Emond home. The Eagles picked up 9 walks in the game. Bennett delivered another line drive to center to bring in two more runs to wrap up their scoring for the inning. Bennett was two for three on the day.
In the bottom of the third the Eagles picked up three consecutive walks to load the bases but were unable to bring a runner home. In the top of the fourth the Sting Rays got on the board gaining two walks and getting a runner home on a fielding error.
The Eagles loaded the bases again in the bottom of the fifth with Aspen Lee, Emond and Tyszkiewicz all getting singles. Again, the Eagles were unable to get a runner across the plate. In the top of the sixth Coastal picked up a second run when Grace Carsey singled home their second run of the game. The Sting Rays would get no closer as Olivia Anderson, who came on in relief of winning pitcher Torin Bennett, shut the door.
Bennett picked up her sixth win of the season. The Bennett/Anderson duo combined for a one hitter, striking out eleven and allowing just 3 walks. They continue to lead the way for the Eagles with a combined ERA of 1.14. Kailee Tran took the loss for Coastal giving up seven hits and walking nine of the batters she faced.
The Eagles play at home again on Wednesday at 4 pm in another important Coastal League game against Foothills Christian. Come out and cheer on the Lady Eagles as they continue their drive toward a CIF play-off spot.
