Our Santa Fe Christian Men’s Lacrosse team beat the Lakewood Tigers from Lakewood, Colorado on Saturday to get back on the win side of the ledger after two consecutive losses. The final score was 11-6. The Eagles are now 3-2 on the season.
The Eagles and Tigers each scored 3 goals in the first half. SFC was stronger on offense in the first quarter leading 3-1 at the end of the quarter. However, the Eagles got shut out in the 2nd quarter and the Tigers scored 2 goals to tie the game going into halftime. SFC dominated the 2nd half scoring 8 goals, 4 in each of the 3rd and 4th quarters, while holding Lakewood to 3 second half goals. It was a strong comeback performance by the Eagles after a disappointing 1 goal loss to another Colorado team in SFC’s previous game.
On offense, three seniors took control. Bobby Berg led SFC with 6 goals. Brendon DeBont had 4 goals and 1 assist for 5 points and Colton Lehberg had 1 goal and 4 assists also for 5 points.
The Eagles’ defense caused 5 turnovers with Brendon DeBont logging 2 caused turnovers and each of DJ Tovtin (Senior), Aaron Bolt (Junior), and Parker Guiltinan (Freshman) causing 1 turnover. DJ Tovtin made the most of his caused turnover by scooping up the ball and racing downfield, avoiding defenders, making an accurate pass that led to an assist.
Sam Cooper was stellar again in the cage stopping 12 out of 18 shots on goal (67%). Colton Lehberg dominated at the face-off dot winning 17 out of 21 face-offs (81%).
The next game for the Eagles is Tuesday at SFC against Pac Ridge at 5:00. This will be the team’s second game against a Coastal League opponent.
