On Wednesday, our SFC men’s lacrosse team won a great game against the Coronado Islanders by a score of 8-7. Recall that last year the Eagles beat Coronado in the first round of the Open Division Playoffs by a single goal with seconds left to play in the game. In that game, SFC took at early lead and held off a ferocious Islander comeback. Tonight the roles were reversed. The Islanders led at the half 5-2 and were outplaying your Eagles. However, SFC roared back in the 3rd quarter outscoring the Islanders 4-1 to tie the game at the end of 3 quarters. The mighty Eagles then outscored Coronado 2-1 in the 4th quarter for the win. The defense was strong again, causing turnovers, saving shots and giving up only 7 goals. The offense was on fire in the 2nd half. An overall team effort!
Highlights for the Game: Brett Koopman caused 6 turnovers, had 10 ground balls, a goal and an assist – he was a one-man wrecking ball! Jack Winters led SFC in scoring with 3 goals and Gabe Ornee had 2 goals and an assist. Sam Cooper had 20 saves for the Eagles. Wow!
SFC’s next game is against Poway on Wednesday March 18th at 7:00pm at Poway High School.
Go Eagles!
