SFC headed to Stan Bickley Field at Tri-City Christian today for a key league contest. In a well-played game by both teams, SFC prevailed 4 -1. The win keeps the Eagles atop the Coastal League with one more league game to go this Friday in the regular season’s last contest.
SFC once again enjoyed solid production throughout the line up. The Eagles went to work in the top of the second loading the bases picking up two of the five walks they would have in the game. Unfortunately, some good fielding by Tri-City got them out the jam with SFC standing three.
In the top of the third SFC got back at it. Maddie Binnie, who reached on all four at bats today, got her second of three walks. Torin Bennett doubled advancing runners to second and third. Maya Tyszkiewicz then worked a good at bat into fielder’s choice ground out that get SFC’s first run on the board. Next batter, Kayla Crecion was hit by a pitch and SFC had runners on the corners. Some crafty play then got the eventual winning run home. With Hannah Muscat at the plate, Crecion looked to steal second on the first pitch. TCC catcher Lilly Halverson threw through to second, but Crecion had stopped running enticing a run down. While Crecion worked the rundown Bennett scored. At the end of three innings SFC was up 2 – 0.
In the bottom of the fourth, Tri-City broke through the wall that Anderson had put up in the first three innings. Erykah Juarez led off with a double. Juarez then stole third. Starting pitcher Abby Lisak then hit a pop up to shall right field that fell in for a single scoring Juarez. It would be the only run Anderson would allow on the day.
SFC got the two-run lead back in the top of the fifth. Anderson picked up her first hit of the game with a leadoff single. Binnie then drew her third walk of the game. Bennett then hit a sharp line drive that TCC turned into a double play. With Anderson at second the two out rally got started. Tyszkiewicz singled putting runners on the corners. Crecion then singled to get Anderson home. Muscat picked up her second hit of the game and the bases were loaded. Relief pitcher Nadiya Ybarra worked out of the jam, but SFC no led 3 -1.
In the top of the sixth, the Eagles put together another two out rally when Anderson doubled, delivering her second hit of the game. Binnie then delivered a single scoring Anderson. For Anderson it was her second run of the game. Binnie’s single and three walks increased her team leading on base percentage to an outstanding .573 this season. With SFC up 4 -1 Tri-City tried to raise a rally of their own. They picked up a single and a double to get runners in scoring position, but Anderson worked out of trouble with a little help from some great defensive play by short stop Bryn Henson. Henson had a standout day defensively getting key outs for the team.
Anderson set down two of the last three batters she faced with strike outs and SFC secured the 4 -1 victory. Anderson picked up her tenth win of the year and is now ten and one with one save to her credit. Her nine strike out effort boosted her total to 118 strike outs this season. Abby Lisek took the loss for Tri-City giving up three runs in her four innings of work.
The Lady Eagles return home on Friday for a league game against La Jolla Country Day at 4:00 pm. Drop down to SFC’s lowest level field to see some of SFCs highest level play Friday night as the ladies look to close out their season with a win and to maintain their number one ranking in D4 softball. Following the game, we will celebrate our seniors as they end their regular season play at SFC and get ready for the playoffs. Let’s go Eagles.
