The Santa Fe Christian Boy’s Lacrosse team finished the regular season with a share of the Coastal League title and a regular season record of 10-4 (7-1 in the Coastal League). The only loss in the Coastal League was to Bishops in a triple overtime thriller at Bishops. SFC avenged that loss later in the season with a one goal victory at SFC. Heading into the CIF Playoffs, the Eagles are ranked #6 in San Diego County and tied for #22 in the State. Congratulations to the Boys and first year head coach Dan Carson.
The team will compete in the Open Division of the CIF Playoffs. The Eagles will face-off against San Diego lacrosse powerhouse La Costa Canyon in the first round. LCC ended the year ranked #2 in San Diego. However, LCC got the 3rd seed in the Open Division and Cathedral (ranked #3) got the 2nd seed. This might be because Cathedral beat LCC in the regular season.
The only other SFC Boys’ Lacrosse team to finish the regular season with a higher ranking was the 2019 team which was ranked #5 in San Diego County. That team played a tough Coronado team (ranked #4) in the first round of the Open Division CIF Playoffs. The Eagles won by a score of 6-5 on a last-second goal by Camden Morris with an assist from Preston Graubart with 10.5 seconds left in the game. The scoring play was drawn up on the sidelines by coach Tom DeMaio after calling a timeout with about 40 seconds left in the game. It was a play and a shot for the ages!
As far as anyone can recall, in the storied and successful history of SFC Boys’ sports, the 2019 lacrosse team was the first SFC Boys’ team in any sport to win an Open Division CIF playoff game. Your 2021 team will be looking to match that accomplishment against LCC.
The game is at LCC on Saturday May 29th. The time of the game will be 7pm.
GO EAGLES!
