On a beautiful sunny Thursday afternoon at SFC the Boys’ Lacrosse team finished the regular season with a 16-3 win over Pacific Ridge. With the win, the team guaranteed itself a share of the 2021 Coastal League title. If La Jolla Country Day beats Bishops in the last game of the regular season, then the Eagles will win the Coastal League title outright. Hard to root for La Jolla Country Day, but go Torreys.
The Boys finished the regular season with a record of 10-4. Now on to the playoffs. Most likely SFC will be in the Open Division and will be the #7 seed. If that is right, then they will play either Cathedral or La Costa Canyon. The boys lost to Cathedral 2 weeks ago, in a very close game, by a score of 3-5. It Would be great to avenge that loss.
Against Pacific Ridge, the offense poured it on in 2nd and 3rd quarters, scoring 10 goals. Bert Carnes, 2022 Class President, scored his very first goal in an SFC lacrosse uniform. Way to go Bert! Bobby Berg and Brendon DeBont led the Eagles with 3 goals and 3 assists each (6 points). Trey Adcox had 2 goals and 2 assists for 4 points. Isaac Matsumoto had a hat trick (3 goals). Rounding out the scoring were Brett Koopman (2 goals), Rylan Goodwin (1 goal), Matt Briggs (1 goal) and Aaron Bolt (1 assist). Jeremiah Cho, took on a triple team late in the 4th quarter and had a shot on goal, but the Pac Ridge goalie was able to make the save. A great effort by Cho.
The SFC defense played tough (as usual) pitching a shut-out in the 1st and 3rd quarters and only giving up 3 goals. The defense racked up 6 caused turnovers (CTOs), led by Brett Koopman (3 CTOs), Nicholas Kavanaugh (2 CTOs) and Evan Bennett (1 CTO). Brett Koopman also led the team in ground balls with 9 GBs. Joshua Armbruster and Bobby Berg each had 4 GBs. DJ Tovtin, Evan Bennett and Trey Adcox each had 3 GBs. Sam Cooper faced 9 shots on goal and saved 6 of those shots (67%). Joshua Armbruster won 50% of his face-offs. Way to go Josh!
The Eagles’ next game will be in the playoffs.
Go Eagles!
