Your SFC Eagles Boys’ Lacrosse team lost a tough 3-overtime nail-biter last Thursday night against Coastal League rival Bishops. The final score at the end of regulation was 3-3. It took three overtimes to decide a winner and Bishops scored the game winning goal about a minute into the 3rd overtime period. The Eagles are now 3-2 for the season. The team played their hearts out. It was a tough loss.
The defense led the way with another stellar performance limiting Bishops to 3 goals during regulation. Two days prior, Bishops scored 19 goals against Coronado. The Eagles defense shut down Bishops’ offense. Brett Koopman picked up 7 ground balls and caused 2 turnovers in his return to the field after being out with a mild concussion. Evan Bennett, DJ Tovtin and Nicholas Kavanagh really delivered on defense. Sam Cooper did a stellar job in the goal, saving 10 out of 14 shots on goal (71%). The defense was “man-down” three times and did not give up a goal, including one case where the Eagles were down 2 players for 30 seconds and had to play 4 on 6 and Bishops did not score.
On the offensive side of the ball Colton Lehberg led the Eagles with 2 goals, with one goal assisted by Brendon DeBont. Brendon also added a goal of his own. Colton also won 10 out of 11 faceoffs (91%).
The Eagles will play twice this week. The next game is Monday, April 26th vs. Francis Parker at SFC at 5:00pm and then Thursday, April 29th @ La Jolla. Come out to cheer on the team. Go Eagles.
