Our SFC Women’s Water Polo Team has captured the first CIF Championship Title in school history.
The Lady Eagles went to La Jolla and captured its first-ever league and CIF Water Polo Championship. The team came away with a hard-fought win over a veteran Monte Vista team by a score of 7-6. A big and loud Eagle fan turnout at the Coggan Swim Center helped push the team to the title.
The team was led by Mylin Bennett with two goals and two assists. Mylin added six steals and had two critical field blocks on the defensive end. Revere Schmidt was the game’s top scorer with three goals and won the sprint at the start of all four quarters to help the Eagles maintain control of the ball through most of the game. Revere was also tough on the defensive end with four steals. Senior, Gisselle Fenby scored two goals, had an assist and had two defensive steals. Kylie Kennard played a great game at the set position all game scoring a goal while also drawing three critical exclusions against the Monarch’s experienced players. Charlotte Adams played strong in goal making three big saves to help the Eagles seal the victory.
Gisselle Fenby was awarded the CIF Sportsmanship Award by the CIF Commissioner following the game.
The Lady Eagles will now move on the California State CIF Tournament in Irvine next weekend. Seedings will be released on Sunday.
