This Saturday, Feb 6th, SFC Robotics team will compete in their first event of the year. We are fortunate, the VEX and REC foundation has created a software tool that allows our teams to compete from the safety of our own campus and lab against other teams across the country using streaming video from a webcam and software that synchronizes communication and events between the different robots.
Our 179E team led by senior Luke Valdez will be competing against teams from Conn, Mass, Wash, Ind, and CA tomorrow. The competition consists of picking and placing colored balls in 9 goals placed around a 12x12 field. One portion of the competition is fully autonomous and students have to program the robot to find and collect balls to place in the goals. The second portion is driver controlled. The game involves a lot of strategy as teams must react to how their competition is stacking balls and work with a partner to maximize their team's score against the opponent.
If you get a chance, I enourage you to check out the live stream of a competition. Links will be posted here on the Talon once available.
