Another strong outing for the Men’s LAX team as all players log time on the field again
The gloomy weather continued but this didn’t deter the Eagles Men’s LAX team in their recent matchup with the Grossmont Foothillers. Our SFC boys were strong and steady against a much smaller Grossmont team (both in stature and in number) that has felt the impact of losing 15 players from 2022’s team that featured marquee player, Ziggy Iannessa (now playing at D1-Bellarmine) and finished 3rd in CIF San Diego rankings.
Mirroring their previous outing against Pac Ridge, the Eagles kept the ball on the offensive side of the field throughout most of the game and closed things out for a 14-1 win to move to 4-0 for the season.
Magnus Falkiewicz (So), started off the goal-scoring and shared the ball so that many others could notch a few as well. Brett Koopman (Sr) and Tre Adcox (Jr) scored 2 apiece, and Matthew Briggs (Sr), Josh Armbruster, (Jr) Will McGuiness (So), Colby Rossettie (Fr), and Matt McKewon (So) all contributed one as well! Magnus finished the game with a team-high 5 goals and 2 assists for 7 points, matching the record set last year by Bobby Berg (SFC’22, D3-Messiah’27). Missing from action was Parker Guiltinan (So), out with an injury, but this was a good one to miss and we all pray he heals quickly and is back with the team soon! Zeke Grove (So) stepped in for his first Varsity start and played with energy and gusto ending the game with 3 ground balls and 4 caused turnovers. It was great to see the entire team contributing both offensively and defensively!
At faceoff, Lucas Sit (So) had another solid game, winning 10 of 18, and the team won 11 of 19 in total!
George Adams (So) and Finlay Lenihan (So), did not face much action throughout the game seeing just 13 shots in total. Combined the dynamic duo stopped 7 of 8 shots on goal! Like the goalies, the defense also was not tested much but when needed Ben Wakeham (So), Johnny Grimstead (So), and Aaron Bolt (Senior) consistently presented a strong wall in front of the cage. Overall, the team committed 6 penalties in the game showing a bit #lessdiscipline than their most recent outings, but still much better than in game one!
In other exciting news, congratulations to Senior captain Brett Koopman who was recently named “One to Watch” in USA Lacrosse Magazine - just one of four players from the West region to be listed in the Players to Watch section. #sodeserved #WestPlayerToWatch
The team is back home TODAY at SFC to host Mountain Vista (CO) (2-0), who beat Poway (1-2, #8 in SD) 17-6 on Wednesday, so it should be a good, tough game. The Eagles need loud support! Go Eagles!
