Our Eagles Varsity Lacrosse Team lost a physical game on Tuesday against San Diego lacrosse powerhouse Torrey Pines, the reigning CIF Open Division Champions. The game was a 48-minute battle, and the final score was 7-15. SFC’s record is now 2-1 on the season.
Notwithstanding the loss, there was a silver lining for the Team on Wednesday morning. LaxNumbers, the group that ranks lacrosse teams around the country, had Santa Fe Christian ranked #3 in San Diego County. While it is still early in the season and there is a lot of lacrosse to play, the team and coaching staff should be proud of the #3 ranking. A hearty congrats to the boys and the coaches.
The 7 goals scored by SFC were more than two times the most scored on Torrey Pines this season. Leading the Eagles on offense were Seniors Bobby Berg and Brendon DeBont. Bobby had 5 goals and Brendon added 1 goal and 2 assists for 3 points. Rounding the scoring for SFC were Parker Guiltinan (Freshman) with 1 goal and Seniors Rylan Goodwin and Colton Lehberg each with 1 assist.
The 15 goals scored by Torrey Pines was the fewest goals they have scored in their 4 wins this season. Penalties really hurt the Eagles giving the Falcons 6 extra man opportunities which the Falcon’s converted into 5 goals.
The next game is Friday at 2:00 against Mullen High School, a private Catholic, Lasallian college preparatory school located in southwest Denver, Colorado. Mullen lost to Poway on Tuesday by a score of 5-8. SFC plays Poway later in the season, so this game will help the Eagles benchmark themselves against a future opponent. Poway is currently ranked #11 in San Diego County.
Go Eagles.
