On Wednesday evening, our Santa Fe Christian Men’s Lacrosse team beat the Curtis Senior High School Vikings. The Vikings were visiting Solana Beach from University Place, Washington. The final score was 16-5. SFC now has a win-loss record of 6-2 on the season. Curtis was the 4th out of state team that SFC played this season and the Eagles are 3-1 in those games.
The Eagles started out fast with Colton Lehberg (Senior) winning the first two face-offs and SFC’s offense scoring on both possession, all in the first minute of play. And, just like the last game against Carlsbad, SFC took control of the game in the 2nd quarter scoring 7 goals in the period. SFC led at the half by a score of 10-3. The SFC offense took 33 shots compared to only 17 shots by Curtis. Bobby Berg (Senior) led the Eagles with 6 goals and 4 assists (10 points). Colton Lehberg had 4 goals and 4 assists (8 points). Four other SFC players also logged goals, Brendon De Bont (Senior) and Ryland Goodwin (Senior) both logged 2 goals. Magnus Falkiewicz (Freshman) and Parker Guiltinan (Freshman) each scored a goal with Magnus adding 2 assists to his teammates.
A special congratulations to Bobby Berg for scoring his 100th career SFC goal during the game. Few players in SFC history have reached this milestone. In fact, only 3 other player have scored more than 100 career goals since 2016. A special accomplishment for sure.
The defense was as stout as ever giving up only 5 goals: 2 goals in the first quarter and then only 1 goal per quarter for the balance of the game. Over the last 5 games, the SFC defense is yielding only about 5 goals per game. Remarkable! Way to go defense. DJ Tovtin (Senior), Evan Bennett (Senior) and Ben Wakeham (Freshman) all caused the Vikings to turn the ball over. Sam Cooper (Senior) stopped more than 58% of the shots on goal that he faced.
The next game for the Eagles is Thursday, April 7th against Coastal League rival Francis Parker. The Lancers have a record of 7-2 and appear to having a very good year.
Go Eagles.
