Solid offense, lockdown defense, and an all-around team effort across the board results in first win of the season.
The Eagles Men’s Lacrosse team traveled north to San Marcos on Sat. 3/2 to take on the San Marcos Knights in a non-conference matchup and the first between the teams in several years. SFC was strong from the start and kept the ball on offense for the majority of the first two quarters – taking an 8-0 lead into halftime. During the second half of the game, the Eagles continued to play well, and Coach Tomas Rodriguez used the team’s lead as an opportunity to play most of his roster, giving many players a chance to step on the field for the first time this season.
The Eagles controlled the game from the start, winning faceoffs, scoring quickly, and defending well. Parker Guiltinan (Jr., Attack) and Colby Rossettie (So., Attack) both scored 4 goals, with Magnus Falkiewicz (Jr., Midfield) contributing 2. Matt McKewon (Jr., Attack) and Finlay Lenihan (Jr. Attack) both scored 1 each, Finlay’s first varsity goal! At the faceoff X, Juniors Dylan Kelleher and Lucas Sit split time and won nearly two-thirds of the matchups they face.
After the half, many of the starters took a step back, providing a great opportunity for the rest of the team to get some solid playing time. The team took advantage of their time on the field, causing turnovers, getting ground balls, and making it tough for the Knights to get on the scoreboard. Junior Brandon Ng caused 3 turnovers to lead the defense, and the Eagles’ goalies were stellar between the pipes all game long. Goalie George Adams (Jr) stopped 6 of 7 shots he faced, then stepped aside to let Freshman goalie Grayson Bruce get some playing time. Grayson made several great saves using height to his advantage and demonstrating depth at the position that will serve the team well throughout the season.
The team is back home at SFC to face the visiting St. Johns (TX) on Monday, 3/11 @ 5 pm. This will be a good matchup against a solid team who will be hungry for a win after playing a very tough schedule on their tour of CA.
Come on out and support the team! Go Eagles!
