Women's Lacrosse at SFC is coming off an amazing campaign last season. The Team won a DII Championship and have been promoted to Division I for the 2023 school year. Last year's head coach Kelsey Cuje has stepped away from high school coaching and SFC Atheltic Ditrector, Doug Miller hired a well known replacement in Skye Sawhney. Here is how Skye made her way back to SFC.
Skye is originally from Pennsylvania but moved to San Diego when she was fourteen and went to Coronado High School. She graduated from San Jose State University where she received her degree in English with a concentration in Professional Writing. She currently works full time as a lacrosse coach as well as a writer in the film industry. She started playing lacrosse when she was eight years old and quickly fell in love with the sport. Her lacrosse career took off in California where she played with the West Division National Team, competed in numerous Allstar division tournaments all over the country, as well as playing at the Collegiate level. After a career ending injury she found her passion for coaching. Skye has coached at the high school level for the past five years, one of those years being the Assistant here at SFC under former head Cuje.
Here is what Skye has to say about being back at SFC. "Stepping into this role as Head Coach is giving me the opportunity to build a team by educating and developing women leaders who compete with excellence, lead by character, and exemplify Jesus Christ in our world. It is important that we create a space together that is based on integrity, perseverance, and teamwork. I believe that if we keep our faith at the forefront this season we will be successful on and off the field. I currently worship at City Church. I'm excited to be back in our SFC community. I am so excited for this season and looking forward to getting to know everyone!"
SFC Athletics expects a large team in 2023, coming off such a successful 2022. Come out cheer for the team this Spring.
