The Eagles were home today for a non-league match up with Granite Hills, a division one team. Granite Hills entered the game having won six of their last seven games and are in first place in the Grossmont Hills League. SFC entered the game coming off two good wins and was ranked 19th in San Diego, six spots behind Granite Hills at number 13. The battle of two of San Diego's top teams ended with SFC delivering a 14 to 4 win.
SFC got out of the gates quickly when Bryn Henson led off with a single and scored when Olivia Anderson tripled to left field. For Anderson it was her team leading nineth triple of the year. Maddie Binnie singled to drive in Anderson on the next at bat. Binnie stole second and scored when Maya Tyszkiewicz reached on an error. The Eagles were up 3 – 0 at the end of one.
In the second inning the hit parade continued for SFC. A few walks and a single and the Eagles had runners in scoring position again. With the starting pitcher having control problems Granite Hills made a change. Unfortunately for the Granite Hills things did not improve and a few wild pitches later SFC had two more runs. Maddie Binnie got on base with a walk and then scored as Torin Bennet blasted a double off the wall in center field. At the end of two SFC held a 7 – 0 lead.
In the top of the third Granite Hills responded with some offense of their own. Ariana Heninger got things going with a one out single. Sofia Mujica doubled. Audrey Smale reached on an error scoring Granite Hills’ first run of the game. Kiki Sandoval walked to load the bases. A Mia Downes sacrifice fly brought home a second run. Alexis Mujica’s, single in run number three, closing the gap to 7 – 3.
SFC put up seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend their lead. Kayla Emond led off with a single, her second hit of the game. Henson followed, picking up her 10th double of the season. Anderson then hit a towering three run home run over the center field fence. Anderson had four RBIs and scored two runs in the game, hitting her fifth home run of the season.
The SFC outburst chased the second Granite Hills pitcher from the game. Binnie welcomed the reliever by gaining a walk. Tyszkiewicz singled and Kayla Crecion walked loading the bases. Hannah Muscat delivered her second hit of the game scoring Binnie. Aspen Lee then singled to right scoring two more runs. Emond then picked up her second hit of the inning and third of her three for three day bringing Muscat home. At the end of 4 SFC led 14 – 3.
Granite Hills looked to extend the game in the top half of the fifth. Sofia Mujica opened the inning with a triple and scored on and Audrey Smale pop out. Two quick outs later SFC shut the door ending the game with a 14 to 4 final score.
SFC got contributions throughout the line up today. Henson and Emond. ch had three hits and scored five runs. Anderson and Muscat had two hits apiece, scoring three runs of their own. All nine Eagles got on base in the game and eight scored a run. On the mound Anderson went the distance giving up five hits and striking out five in her five innings of work. It was Anderson’s nineth win of the season.
The Eagles head out tomorrow for a non-league game with San Dieguito Academy at 10 am. Come out and support the Lady Eagles.
