Congrats to our new Head Coach Tomas Rodriguez for winning his first game as the SFC Eagles’ program leader.
Our Men’s Varsity Lacrosse Team won their season opener 13-5 against the La Jolla Country Day Torreys (1-1) in a Coastal League matchup at La Jolla Country Day. The Eagles outscored the Torreys 6-1 in the first quarter and never looked back.
Senior attack Bobby Berg had a career night scoring 8 goals. His previous personal best was 7 goals against Pacific Ridge last season. The last time an SFC Eagle scored that many goals in a game was 6 years ago during the 2016 season, when Hank Ontiveros (the G.O.A.T. for SFC lacrosse) scored 8 goals against JSerra Catholic High School (San Juan Capistrano). Congrats to Bobby on a stellar performance.
Freshman Parker Guiltinan logged a “hat trick” scoring 3 goals in his first game in an SFC Eagles’ uniform. Way to go Parker. Rounding out the goal scoring were Brendon DeBont (Senior) and Magnus Falkiewicz (Freshman) with 1 goal each. Magnus also added an assist to his stat sheet.
The Eagles defense limited LJCD to just 5 goals, led by goalie Sam Cooper (Senior) and defensemen DJ Tovtin (Senior), Evan Bennet (Senior), Aaron Bolt (Junior), and Ben Wakeham (Freshman). Sam was stellar between the pipes stopping 9 of 15 shots on goal (60%). The team also caused 7 turnovers.
Colton Lehberg (Senior) was dominant at the X winning 19 out of 20 face-offs (95%). Colton lead the team in ground balls (20) and caused turnovers (2).
Again, congrats to Coach Tomas and his entire staff for a great start to the season.
The Eagles will host St. Johns (Houston, TX) this Saturday at 11:00 at SFC. Come out and cheer on the team.
Go Eagles!
