Football fans, the weather is getting cooler and we are already at the halfway mark of regular season play.
This week, one of the featured games will be La Jolla Country Day (4-0) traveling up Interstate 5 to play Santa Fe Christian (3-1) in a non-conference matchup.
Last year, the Eagles flew high over the Torreys, winning 56-3.
Santa Fe Christian’s run game has been dominant through all four games so far thus season, and that probably won’t change anytime soon. The Eagles are an old school playing team, but nothing is wrong with traditional football. Even with one loss, it’s allowed the Eagles to be a force not just on the field but in the county.
One of the key players to watch on the Eagles side is junior running back and linebacker Stephen Britton, who has four rushing touchdowns on 66 carries and 374 total rushing yards. Another is senior quarterback Kian Hogan, who had three rushing touchdowns in last week’s game alone.
La Jolla Country Day has been a team to be reckoned with. The Torreys stand tall as one of the only few schools left in the county with a perfect record. After finishing 2-8 last year, the Torreys look like a brand new team built from the ground up. If they keep up the momentum, speed, and accuracy, LJCD is on the path to victory over and over again.
One of the stars of the Torreys is senior quarterback EJ Kreutzmann, who has already thrown 131 passes for 1,834 yards and 19 touchdowns to add to his stats record and it’s barely Week 5.
Another player to watch out for is senior running back and linebacker Nicholas Albert, who has an impressive nine touchdowns.
Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. at Santa Fe Christian in Solana Beach.
Will the Eagles soar over the Torreys or will the Torreys tower over them and remain undefeated?
