The Santa Fe Christian Athletics Department is proud to announce the appointment of Matt Carlino to head basketball coach.
Carlino brings a passion for shaping the hearts of young men along with the highest level of professional and college-level basketball experience to the SFC boys basketball program.
Carlino has a Masters Degree from TCU, where he was an assistant coach for the men's basketball team for two years under Head Coach Jamie Dixon. As a player, Carlino played for three years for BYU where he earned the honors of Team Captain, All WCC Conference, BYU Top 5 all time assists and 2nd all time steals in school history. After BYU, Matt Carlino played one year for Marquette. Following his season at Marquette, Carlino played professional basketball in Italy and France for four years before coaching at TCU.
"We couldn't be happier to welcome Matt Carlino as the head of our program" said SFC Athletic Director Doug Miller.
"His heart for our students, combined with his high level D1 play experience and coaching experience, make him the perfect fit for our already successful program. Matt is a perfect fit for us to take over for Coach Chad Bickley. Matt has the ability to inspire our team to continue to compete at the highest level in the state, additionally we have a shared understanding that our measure of success is more about student character than win/loss results."
Carlino had this to say about joining SFC, “I feel so blessed to be the next basketball coach at Santa Fe Christian. Coach Bickley has built an amazing program the last 17 years, and I am very humbled and grateful to be taking over for such a great coach and a great man. It is an amazing opportunity to do what I believe God has called me to do, in building relationships through basketball with people that will bring us all closer to Christ.
In my short time of getting to know SFC it has been amazing how welcoming and loving everyone has been. It is a special place and my wife Mandi and I are so excited to join the SFC family and community.”
SFC’s basketball program under Coach Bickley has had success at the highest levels in the state. Under Bickely’s leadership, his teams amassed 306 wins in 17 years. In 2021 SFC Basketball was D1 California State Champions and in 2023 SFC competed in Open Division state playoffs. Matt Carlino is poised to take over and continue the development of our young men and maintain the success our community is used to experiencing. In addition to coaching basketball, Matt Carlino will be a full time employee supporting the Athletic Department and substitute teaching.
