The SFC Varsity Softball team extended its winning ways wrapping up a quick two game road trip with back-to-back 11 to 1 victories over Foothills Christian and San Diego HS this weekend. The Eagles put up the second win on Saturday with impressive offensive output delivering 12 hits and stealing 9 bases. Across the 2 games the team scored 22 runs, on 25 hits with 11 stolen bases. The wins contributed to a great start to the season, bringing the team’s record to 6 – 0 – 1.
The Eagles were led by strong performances from their senior leaders, Bryn Henson, and Olivia Anderson. Bryn Henson led the offensive charge with a 2 for 4 day, driving in 3 runs. Henson is batting .346 on the year and leads the team with 4 doubles. Olivia Anderson hit her second home run of the season as she went 2 for 4 as well. Anderson scored 2 runs and had 1 RBI. She now leads the team with 2 home runs this season.
The Eagles jumped out to an early one run lead with Olivia Anderson hitting a solo homer over the left-center fence in the first inning. The Cavers responded in the bottom half of the inning when Hanna Patterson homered to tie the game. The Eagle offense took over from there and starting pitcher Olivia Anderson shut the door with a big performance on the mound.
In the second inning the Eagle bats sprung to life and San Diego’s defense sputtered. A few early inning errors led to one run with Maddie Binnie, Kayla Emond, Maya Tszykiewicz and Anderson all delivering key hits. The Eagles plated 5 runs in the second. They struck again in the top of the third when Kayla Crecion led off with a double. Hannah Muscat, who scored 3 runs on the day, singled advancing Crecion. Kayla Emond then drove in Crecion and Bryn Henson picked up an RBI singling home Muscat.
Maddie Binnie led off the fourth inning with a single and Torin Bennett brought her home. In the fifth two errors by the Cavers got runners on base setting up two more RBIs for Henson whose line drive single closed out the scoring for SFC. Defensively the team continued its good play and were led by Kayla Emond who made a sensational diving catch in right field and gunned down a Caver runner trying to steal second.
Olivia Anderson went the distance for the Eagles on the mound with a sterling effort. Anderson picked up her third win of the season allowing just one run on two hits. She struck out 11 and walked 2. Anderson has 48 strike outs in her 5 appearances this year. The win brought her season record to 3 wins, 0 losses and 1 save.
The Eagles are now one third of the way through their season and their undefeated record has them ranked number 1 in Division IV in San Diego and number 11 across all San Diego High Schools. The team is back home on Tuesday for a game against Morse at 3:30 pm. They then travel to Canyon Crest Academy on Wednesday before heading off for spring break. Let’s fill the Nest on Tuesday and support the team!
