Another solid outing for the team as all players log time on the field
In its first Coastal League matchup of the season, the Eagles Men’s Lacrosse team traveled north to Carlsbad to take on the Pacific Ridge Firebirds on a rainy Friday afternoon. The wet weather didn’t bother the Eagles, SFC was strong from the start, kept the ball on the offensive side of the field throughout most of the game, and closed things out for a 19-3 win moving to 1-0 in league play and 3-0 for the season.
The Eagles controlled the game from the first whistle, scoring quickly and seemingly at will. Magnus Falkiewicz (So), Parker Guiltinan (So), and Colby Rossettie (Fr) continued their offensive hot streak, each scoring 3 goals. Brett Koopman (Sr), Matthew Briggs (Sr), and Matt McKewon (So), each added a goal to the score sheet as well.
The story of the game, however, was all about the rest of the team! It quickly became clear this match-up was a mismatch. However, this provided a great opportunity for the starters to sit out after getting some initial playing time so the rest of the team could get into the game for some solid field time – and these boys did not waste the opportunity to showcase their skills! Five players scored their first goals of the season, for many, it was their first varsity goal ever! 2 goals each for Zeke Grove (So) and PJ Rogers (So), plus 1 goal apiece for Logan McClurkin (Sr), Lucas Sit (So), and Vedder Brandt (Fr), as well as an “oh-so-close” moment for Robbin Anzodru (Fr) who had his goal waved off due to a slight crease violation. All in all, a very impressive offensive outing for the Eagles!
At faceoff, Lucas Sit (So) [pictured above with the ball] had a great game, winning 16 of 18, and the team won 20 of 23 in total! Amazing!
Although the goalies, George Adams (So) and Finlay Lenihan (So), did not face much action, when they did see the ball at their end of the field, they were like a brick wall stopping 6 of 9 shots on goal, and they only faced 14 total shots throughout the game thanks to solid play by the SFC defense. Like the goalies, the defense also found themselves with a bit of downtime throughout most of the game, but they remained alert, and when needed, they played tough and pretty much shut down the Firebird’s offense. AND, the team committed just one penalty throughout the entire game! #discipline
The team is back home at SFC to face Grossmont (1-3) on Wednesday, 3/15 @ 5 pm and again on Friday, 3/17 @ 5 pm when they host Mountain Vista (CO) (1-0), we expect these to be good games! Grossmont will be hungry to notch their 2nd win after tough losses to the #1 and #2 ranked teams in the county (LCC and TP) as well as a close, 1-goal game against Coronado. Mountain Vista plays at Poway (3/15) before coming to SFC, which will provide a preview of what to expect for our boys.
Come on out and support the team! Go Eagles!
