Did you know....? Gail (Castro) Malone is a trailblazer in women’s professional beach volleyball. A star athlete in high school, she went on to play indoor volleyball at Los Angeles Valley College, Cal State Long Beach, and in the Italian Professional League. It was upon her return from Italy that she discovered a passion for beach volleyball. That passion took her to the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games, where she represented the U.S.A in the first year of Olympic beach volleyball. After an almost 20 year career, she began coaching. Coach Malone has been a part of the SFC community for nearly 15 years. During that time she was the indoor girl’s volleyball coach until 2013, and currently coaches the boys and girls beach volleyball club. As the PE Department Chair, she teaches girls grades 6-12 and Girls On Guard self-defense class to all 9th graders. In addition to her many accomplishments, Malone was also inducted into the California Beach Volleyball Associations Hall of Fame in 2017 and the Crescenta Valley High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2018.
Coach Malone is a cherished teacher, coach, and member of the SFC family. We deeply appreciate her, and it's our privilege to honor her today and her contributions made to girls and women in sports. #NGWSD
