The Eagles Varsity Softball team won their Coastal League opener last week by a score of 11 – 2 over Maranatha. The team was led by Maya Tyszkiewicz who went 3 for 3 on the day and Torin Bennett who pitched 5 strong innings for the team and collected the win. The Eagles are now 3 – 0 – 1 on the season with a 1 – 0 record in the League.
The Eagles jumped out to an early lead in the game when Olivia Anderson tripled and scored on an error in the first. In the second inning the bats came alive, and the Eagles put up four more runs. The Eagles added to their total in the fourth and fifth inning taking a an 8 – 0 lead. Maranatha broke through for two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Eagles added 3 more runs in the seventh inning to put away the win.
The Eagles had a big day at the plate with a 12 hits performance. Tyszkiewicz led the way with 3 hits and 3 runs scored. Bryn Henson, Torin Bennett, Maddie Binnie, and Olivia Anderson all had 2 hits in the game. Henson and Anderson each had 3 RBIs for the Eagles. The team also added 9 stolen bases to an already impressive season total of 27 steals in just the first 4 games.
Torin Bennett earned the win, striking out nine and walking two in her 5 innings of work. Olivia Anderson collected the save with 2 shutout innings to close the door on Maranatha.
The Eagles return to play this week with two Coastal League matches. First up in Escondido Charter at home on Wednesday at 3:30 pm. Escondido is 6 and 3 on the season and 1 – 0 in League play. The Eagles then go on the road for games against Foothills Christian (league game) and San Diego High School on Friday and Saturday. Come out and cheer on the Eagles this week!
