The Ultimate Team Stat: The Santa Fe Christian Eagles are your 2021 Coastal League Champions. Has a nice ring to it. According to the San Diego Union Tribune this is SFC’s first Coastal League title since 2016. It has been a long 5 year wait. Way to go team!
The stats referenced below are based on information in MaxPreps as of October 25, 2021 and only reflect what SFC and other schools have reported to MaxPreps on or prior to that date.
Offense Team Stats: The following are the key offensive stats available on MaxPreps.
Passing/Receiving Yards: SFC has historically been known as a running team with its Wing-T offense. However, this season SFC’s passing game was one of the best for the team in recent history. The Eagle’s ranked 21st in San Diego County in passing/receiving yards, 6th in DIII, and 3rd in the Coastal League. Almost 40% of the team’s total yards were passing yards. A well balanced attack that kept opposing defenses on their heels.
Rushing Yards: SFC’s ranked 3rd in San Diego County in rushing yards. That’s right, 3rd in the County. SFC averaged over 255 yards/game running ball. Remarkably, the Eagles scored more rushing touchdowns (38) than any other team in San Diego County. Wow!
Scoring: If you think the rushing statistics are impressive, consider that the Eagles ranked #1 in San Diego County in points scored with 51 touchdowns, 3 field goals, 48 extra points and 1 safety for a total of 369 points, 27 more points than the 2nd best team. Remarkable!
Touchdowns: In terms of touchdowns scored, the Eagles finished 2nd in San Diego County with 51 touchdowns, 38 running the ball, 12 passing the ball, and 1 pick six.
Total Yards: SFC ranked 4th in San Diego County in total yards and 2nd in DIII.
Pretty amazing that we are talking about how SFC’s offense stacked up against all high school football programs in San Diego county. Great job offense.
Defense Team Stats: The following are the key defensive stats available on MaxPreps
Sacks: The Eagle’s defense recorded 28 sacks for 3rd best in San Diego County and 2nd best in DIII.
Interceptions: Santa Fe’s defense rose to the occasion against some of the best passing attacks in San Diego. The team recorded 11 interceptions in the regular season, tied for 8th in San Diego County and 3rd in DIII.
Way to go D-line, Backers and Secondary!

Kick Scoring: The Eagles were 2nd in the County in Kick Scoring – field goals plus PATs.
There are other special teams categories such as total kick-off yards, punt returns, kick-off returns and total returns, however many schools do not report these statistics.

Look for tomorrow’s posting which will highlight some individual offensive accomplishments during the regular season.
