Our SFC men’s lacrosse team will be competing in the Open Division CIF playoffs as the #4 seed. The Open Division includes the top 8 teams in San Diego County. Their first game is on Thursday May 12th and is scheduled to be played at SFC.

Here are some fun and interesting playoff and regular season statistics.
The #4 seeding is the highest seeding an SFC men’s lacrosse team has earned in the Open Division. The only other SFC men’s athletic team to compete in the Open Division is the 2019 men’s basketball team. That team was also seeded #4.
This is the 5th time in 7 seasons that the SFC men’s lacrosse team will be competing in the Open Division. There were no lacrosse playoffs in 2020 since the season was cancelled due to COVID. In the other two of the last seven seasons, the 2016 SFC team won the Division I CIF title and the 2018 team lost in the Division I semi-finals by a single goal.
In a very competitive 2022 San Diego CIF Section for lacrosse, SFC ended the regular season ranked #4 in San Diego County and #14 in the State of California. The Eagles were ranked as high as #3 in the County during the regular season.
The Eagles will be playing La Costa Canyon (LCC) in the first round of the CIF Playoffs. Recall in last year’s Open Division playoffs, a resilient #6 ranked Eagles team lost a close game to #3 ranked LCC by a score of 7-11. The Eagles mounted a strong 4th quarter comeback but fell just short in the end.
Just like 2021, SFC is co-Coastal League Champions in 2022 sharing the League title with Bishops. SFC beat Bishops 8-5 in a home game at SFC and lost to Bishops by one goal (9-10) in a thrilling game. It was the last regular season game for both teams. Bishops is the #2 seed in the Open Division tournament. The #3 seed is Grossmont who beat SFC by one goal 7-8. As noted above, the 2022 season was very competitive and any team can beat any other team on any given day.
The Eagles ended the regular season with a record of 14-6. Three of the losses were by 1 goal (Bishops (ranked #2), Grossmont (#3), and Mullen) and one loss was by 2 goals to the #1 team in the State of California (St. Margaret’s). With a couple of breaks, those 4 losses could have been wins.
Come out to cheer on your Santa Fe Christian Eagles Men’s Lacrosse team in the Open Division Playoffs.
Go Eagles!
