The SFC Women’s Water Polo team traveled up to the Diamond Bar 6th Annual Bull Run Tournament and captured the Championship with four convincing wins.
The Lady Eagles started pool play with a 14-6 win over Beverly Hills. The team was led by Freshman Revere Schmidt with six goals, Mylin Bennett with four and Gisselle Fenby with three. Kylie Kennard and Olivia Davis each added a goal. Sofia Gonzolez added two assists and had two steals. Annie Marx started in goal and had five big saves.
Next, the team faced Montclair and came away with a tough 11-7 victory. Revere Schmidt led the scoring with six goals and won two sprints. Mylin Bennett scored three goals and added three assists and two steals. Also, scoring goals were Seniors Ryan Rodriguez and Gisselle Fenby. The defensive effort was led by Kylie Kennard drawing two ejections at set that let to scores by the Eagles. Also on the defensive side was Morgan Day with two steals and Annie Marx in goal with six saves.
In the Semi-Final game, the Eagles faced Estancia of Costa Mesa, CA and came away with the win by a score of 14-7. Leading the scoring was Revere Schmidt with six goals, Mylin Bennett with four and Gisselle Fenby with two. Also adding goals was Morgan Day and Sofia Gonzalez with a goal each. The defense was smothering with Morgan and Revere each having four steals. Gisselle and Sofia Gonzalez each had two steals. Annie Marx started at goal and made four saves.
The Lady Eagles then faced El Segundo in the Championship game at Chino Hills High School and had a close first half leading by a score of 5-3. The team then used its speed and toughness to pull away in the second half to win the game by a score of 13-6. Leading the scoring was Revere Schmidt with seven goals, Mylin Bennett had three and Gisselle Fenby, Sofia Gonzalez and Morgan Day each added a goal. Leading the defense was Mylin with four steals while Morgan Day and Revere had three each. Aliyah Larson added a key assist and steal. Annie Marx started in goal for the first half and made five saves. Charlotte Adams was in goal for the second half and made four big saves to seal the win. Gisselle Fenby played great all weekend on defense shutting down each opponent’s top player.
