Volleyball Serving Up Coaching Talent

Friday, March 8, 2024 (Solana Beach, Calif.) As the anticipation builds for the upcoming volleyball season, Santa Fe Christian (SFC) announced Megan Lawley as the new Women’s Head Coach, accompanied by Rafael Asvolinsque as Assistant Head Coach.

“I am humbled and honored to be stepping into the role of Head Coach alongside Rafa. I am excited to continue to shape the culture with new and old traditions,” said Lawley.

Both Lawley and Asvolinsque bring an impressive volleyball IQ along with a passion for serving Christ.

“My goal is that by their senior year they go out into the world as strong, bold, Godly women—heavily influenced by the SFC Volleyball program,” said Lawley.

Lawley and Asvolinsque step into their roles, succeeding former head coach Jeff Sutherland. The women’s volleyball program at SFC holds a history of success and recognition locally in San Diego, as well as at the state and national levels. The program’s legacy emphasizes not only athletic achievement but also the essential values of mentoring and spiritual guidance, leading the team closer to Christ.

“Coach Sutherland leaves behind an incredible imprint on this program that I am excited to continue,” said Lawley. “Rafa is a sought after coach in San Diego county and I’m excited to work alongside him. Running this program has always been a dream of mine.”
