The SFC Lady Eagles finished a successful season losing to Escondido Charter 54 - 44 in the CIF San Diego Section Finals. The runner-up Eagles played with determination but came up short in their bid to secure a CIF Championship. The team finished the year with an 18 win, 13 loss record moving the program in a positive direction. Head coach Vickie Carrington, along with assistant coaches Diara Carrington and Tom Harmon, led the team on a successful campaign in her second year as head coach.
Tonight Escondido Charter jumped out to an early lead and were up by 10 at the end of the first quarter. The Eagles battled back in the second quarter tying the score but ended the half down by 4 points. The Eagles continued their hard work in the third quarter cutting the Escondido Charter lead to 1 point entering the fourth quarter. The tough physical play continued in the fourth quarter but late foul troubles opened the door for Escondido Charter to pull away to a 10 point victory.
The team played in front of a big SFC crowd with a full house of friends and family cheeering them on. The Nest was full and loud supporting the team throughout the game and the school staff turned out to cheer on the team. While the final result was not what the team had hoped for the Women’s Basketball team has a lot to be proud of as they played with pride, passion and determination all season.
Tonight saw the high school careers of three seniors come to a close as Dorcas Ndume, Elizabeth Bickley and Julia Wallace played in their last high school game. With Alesea Haynes and Piper Lenihan looking forward to their senior season and a strong nucleus of young players (sophmores Jennifer Stanion, Emma Morin and Gianna Griffin and freshmen Siena Porcelli, Ari Sit, Therese Esmay and Akemi Homna) gaining valuable experience this year, the future of Women’s Basketball at SFC is looking bright. This was a great season for our team and our school!
