Women’s Varsity Tennis Takes Down the Mission Bay Buccaneers in an 11-7 Triumph!
Wednesday October 04, 2023 by Christine Bailey
In a final non-league match, Women's Varsity Tennis struck hard to gain another victory over Mission Bay High School.
Coaches Tricia and Rick Bothmer were so proud of the girls for this match as the team had just 9 players in attendance and showed such team spirit against a solid opponent in Mission Bay.
The Singles players were the stars of the match with all 3 players winning their matches. Senior Reagan Coyle grabbed 3 commanding wins of 6-1, 6-4, and 6-1. Junior Mila Sonkin played with great strength with 3 resounding wins of 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0. But the big excitement for our Single players was Freshman Abby Schneier making her debut in Singles play taking all 3 matches at 6-1, 6-2 and an over-the-top, come-from-behind effort winning against her Mission Bay opponent with a score of 7-5 which was simply amazing! Abby was initially behind in the match at 0-5. She got focused and battled back to overtake her opponent in extra matches for the win! Great job Abby!
Our Doubles teams grabbed two wins for the Lady Eagles starting with Junior Kayla Crecion and Freshman Breezy Frederick with a win in extra games of 7-6. Junior Olivia Grimstad and Junior Andrea Alessio also claimed a victory for SFC with a strong win at 6-4.
